My Speech on Tondol NHS Moving Up Ceremony 2017

Noon, isa lamang akong tagapakinig at naghihintay ng medalya at diploma.

Talagang ginalingan ninyo.

Isipin mo ang track na talagang Destined to be yours.

Mabuhay tayong lahat! Pagpalain tayo ng Diyos!

Fathomable Friday Vol. I

(This is supposedly posted yesterday. Due to poor Internet connectivity, it is now late.)

Hello friends!

After weeks of fidget, I am able to write again on my blog. I really miss blogging. I have lots of topics that I wanted to feature and discuss, but there are various demands in my job that I need to attend. As a blogger, dormancy of a blog site is a worse enemy. It is a trouble that I always meet and keeps me frustrated. Hopefully, I will have an ample time to improve my home online.

Anyway, I am starting this edition on my blog which I entitled “Fathomable Friday.” This edition will be my weekly recap of what activities I did and what are the thoughts that maybe bothering me or making my mind active. This will be my outlet of stress and medium of expression about my work and about the things and happenings (here and abroad) that affected me for the entire week.

Let’s start.

It’s now February and honestly I have not felt the transition of months because of tons of paper works and teaching tasks I have focused on. I had busier week before the third grading examination and after the examination period for I conducted post-test reading assessment. Thanks to my fellow teachers who helped me in conducting the test especially in maintaining the attendance of the students. Well, the result of the assessment was fine. We were in instructional level. I have seen how my students have improved in their reading. But, mediocrity should not be in my vocabulary. I need to work hard in order for me to make my students as independent readers. (I have a separate post about this reading assessment.)

After doing the reading report, I drenched myself in front of the computer again and again to compute the grades of my students. I did not have a hard to compute grades in this period than the previous grading periods because I have recorded outputs earlier. I admit that I have procrastination in doing some tasks, but I still manage to give grades on time. Well, it is a must for it will be an embarrassment if I am late in giving grades. As a teacher, I should be a role model in practicing punctuality.

The card day came this morning and I acted as the master of ceremonies. I am very happy to see my students receiving the fruit of their efforts in the third grading period as they went up the stage to get their certificate of academic excellence for reaching 90.00% average. I remembered how I go on the stage to receive awards during recognition programs when I was still a student. I salute the students who received perfect attendance certificate. I love to see students who patiently and eagerly attending classes rain or shine. I reiterate to my students the importance of complete attendance. Hoping that all students will be present in all school days and also work hard for their diploma.

My multitasking mode was on as I also conducted English Festival 2017 while the card day was on going. I only conducted slogan contest and poster making contest for the area where the remaining events supposedly conducted was used on the PTA Assembly Meeting. (I also have another post about this. Stay put about this post).

There are various things happened for the past weeks and I really deserve a B-R-E-A-K. I want to unwind, but I do not have M-O-N-E-Y. I am waiting for Performance- Based Bonus (PBB) to conquer my ATM Card that is almost empty. Some teachers say that PBB stands for Paasa Buwan Buwan. I hope that I am going to receive it soon. I am still waiting for it. (Di bale sanay na ako umasa.) But, forever should not be the date of release.

I really need the money because I want now to take my comprehensive exam for my master’s degree. I really miss attending classes on postgraduate studies and I hope I can finish my master’s degree so that I can take up another degree. I want to study while I am young and vigor. Many teachers suggest to take up postgraduate degrees while one can and few obligations are still shouldered. I hope I can have good finances to create my thesis. (Pautang naman diyan.)

These are the things I can share on my blog right now. See you next time in the next volume of Fathomable Friday. Happy weekend everyone. God bless!

School- Based English Festival 2017 | Mechanics in Different Contests

Hello friends!

I just want to share the mechanics of the different contests on our English Festival 2017. Due to limited time, there are only six competitions in our festival. Last year, we had on-the-spot photo contest and best selfie and groupie contest. Hopefully, we can have the photo contests. There are things to consider in conducting this school-based activity especially that this is slated a day before third card day of school year 2016- 2017. We need to select contests based on time frame. It is to hard to manage activities especially if there is no ample time.

6 Steps on Creating DepEd Email Account

Hello friends!

Last Wednesday, I got an email that I have been waiting for. Finally, I received the verification link to claim my DepEd email account. In just few minutes, (It can be done in few seconds if Internet connection does not buffer) I have claimed my email account.

Well, as an employee of the department, it is a must for a teacher like me to have this special edition of email account. Department of Education and Google through Gmail have partnership for this. DepEd email account is usually having your name in the email address and with deped.gov.ph. Having this email account makes me feel that I am really part of the DepEd family.

There is a necessity to having this account especially that the department has embraced technology in administering the education system of our country through the years. There are various reports that are needed to be submitted online. DepEd email account makes all the online submissions easier as the receiver apparently recognizes that the files are sent from reliable source. For ICT coordinators like me, the usage of this account will help me to do my tasks properly especially in doing LIS and on consolidation of needed data by any office (e.g. Schools Division Office) in the department.

There is a sense of oneness in using this type of account and I want to encourage you to do the same. Here are the processes I have undertaken to create and claim my DepEd email account. (Note: Only permanent employees of DepEd can this account).

  1. Search DepEd Email Account on the search browser or go to depedverify.appspot.com. This will lead you in the home page showing the message of DepEd secretary on the left part. On the right part shows a blue rectangle containing the two buttons: I don’t have or (I forgot) my DepEd Email; and I have my DepEd email but forgot my Password. It says there: By clicking, I am conforming that I am bonafide employee of the Department of Education. Above the rectangle is the link that will bring you to FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).
  2. Click I don’t have or (I forgot) my DepEd Email. It will bring you to a form needed to fill out.
  3. Supply the following information:Tax Identification Number (TIN)First Name

    Middle Name

    Last Name

    Suffix (Optional)

    Birth Date

    Personal Email

    Phone Number

    Region

    Division

    School (Optional)

Please supply functional personal email address and phone number.

  4. After giving all the needed information, press Get My DepEd Email tab. There will pop up a dialog box to let you check misspelled/ wrongly encoded information. You need to wait for weeks before receiving account details. If in case that there is no reply, do the process again. I had four attempts before claiming my account. Check your email regularly.
  5. After receiving the account details and verification link in your personal email, click the link and supply all the information that are needed. The information that you have supplied before are what you are going to put in the verification. There will be a dialog box that will let you review all the information you encoded before submitting. It will give you you’re DepEd email account and your password.
  6. Log in to your new account with the given password. Then, change the password.

You can now use your new account to send mails and reports.

One of these benefits is having an unlimited Google Drive space. Yes, you read it right! We all want unlimited things: unlimited load, unlimited food and unlimited storage of files. We can store documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations and PDF files in Google Drive with no limits. Google Drive is one of the great offerings of Google Apps. I will write about the awesome features of Google Apps soon.

As I have written above, DepEd email account promotes reliability and uniformity. There is a guarantee that emails and files are sent from people included in the department. And, this will help you sort business emails from personal emails.

I hope I have helped you a lot in this blog post.

New Year, New Blog, New Face

As what many people say, new year is a perfect time to start something new. Most of us are afraid of changes, but we cannot avoid them come to our lives. If we are not going to make our arms wide open, we do not know how far or how beneficial these changes are in our lives. This year, I have the courage to rename and to revamp my personal blog to a site which is more helpful nowadays especially in the field where I belong.

My blog, Beachcomber, has stayed on the Web for half year. The time that I invested on my online home was already painstaking. It served as my outlet to vent out my thoughts and feelings especially when I was on my lowest low. The site gave me a chance to flaunt my side in the virtual world that I am not showing offline. It was my comfort zone. It was my cradle that I chose to stay when the things happening to me are mostly bad.

But, I felt that I can do something bigger on my domain more than ranting on the things that annoyed me. I can make my blog more purposeful more than making myself comfortable. I want to boost my esteem while helping many people. That was the turning point that pushed me to renovate my site.

Before 2016 ended, I conceptualized  how my blog looks like and what will be the content of it. I want to make my site which is near to my heart— teaching.

I am a teacher for two years. I started my career as a college instructor five months after graduation. I taught English subject courses to the student teachers who are following my footsteps. I have seen optimism in their eyes as I shared what I learned from my baccalaureate degree. I became more passionate in my job as I answer their queries and helped them in their practicum in other subjects. I beheld how influential I am in the career that I chose.

With these scenarios, I realized that I can do more; I can extend help beyond the vicinity of the campus where I am working. Forming this website came into my mind first than my personal blog. However, I was not able to make my plan in inception because I thought it was very sophisticated and I was still in the adjustment period.

After seven months, I landed a job in a public school as a local school board (LSB) teacher. For those who are clueless about the designation, a local school board teacher does the job of a regular, permanent teacher but he has contract and he gets compensation from the local government. The school that needs teachers has to sign a memorandum of agreement with the local government where the school is located. The salary was meager, but it is a good opportunity for someone who applies for a teacher item.

I admit that two months I had as LSB teacher was difficult. I really needed to be frugal and I adjusted anew. The transition was very tough. I need to shift my teaching standard from higher education to basic. As a teacher, versatility is a must and I felt glad that I was able to cope with the system. I enjoyed the job even that I need to work with hundred of students with manifold attitudes.

As the days went by, I became attached with the students that one day I realized that it will cause hurt for me to leave them. While I was teaching in that school, I was waiting for my name to be called in the schools division office and receive my designation letter. The office can  put a newly hired teacher anywhere in the division. There was a big possibility that I will be assigned to other school.

Then, the time came. The division office informed me that I am now part of the DepEd family. I was jubilant and my became happier as I received the directive indicating that I am going to work in the school where I stayed temporarily. I told to my students about it and they had the same reaction as mine.

I had various jobs to perform because the school was on its initial year as an integrated school. I became of the ICT coordinator, LIS coordinator, Boy Scout Coordinator and class adviser. My flexibility and patience were tested. Thanks be to God! I am still alive. I can conclude that my first school year as a public school teacher was colorful. I tried to document those moments in my blog, but those were not highlighted.

Now that I am working on my second school year, I am really eager to create a blog which will present my mundane activities as a professional teacher in a public school. So, as I spent my Christmas vacation, I visualized how my blog will look like. I have also remembered the mistakes I committed with my previous blogs. I want to make my blogging satisfactorily done this time if not excellent in scale.

Ideas moved fast in my brain. So, I got my notebook and pen to sketch the structure of my site. Sorry, I am not going to show my sketch. I am not good at arts. The things that you can see on my blog is what I visualized. This 3.0 version of my blog will be the last format of my blog in this domain. Ito na talaga, to.

From now on, this blog will focus on my life as a teacher. I am going to do my best to document what I have done or attained. I will make this blog informative and helpful for every user especially to my colleagues and to all people who wants to venture on the field. I am happy to share what I know because as a teacher it is my duty to share all the things I know. A teacher should be ascetic just like how candle gives light in the dark.

I hope that this new face of my blog will put smiles on your faces. Enjoy 2017 by serving other people.
